Everything parents ask, in one place that keeps growing. Search it, or browse by topic.
Privacy & safety
Is my family's data private?
Yes. Your stories, heroes, and library are visible to your account alone — until you choose to share a book, which creates a private link anyone holding it can open, revocable any time from your shelf. Nothing is sold or advertised against, nothing is used to train AI, and your words are sent only to the AI partners that write, paint, narrate, and translate them (each is named in the Privacy Policy, with exactly what it receives). Delete your account and every trace goes with it, permanently.
Is it safe for kids?
Lomelle is built for parents. Children never need their own logins, there are no ads, no chat, no strangers, and nothing to buy inside a story. Accounts are created and controlled by adults.
What about my child's name and details?
Stories only need a first name and a spark of description. We follow COPPA's 2026 rules: no photos are required, there's no microphone access and we never record your family — the free read-aloud voice runs on your device, and the Family storyteller narration is synthesized from the book's written text, kept in your own space, and deleted with the book. Any optional feature that would process more is gated behind explicit, verifiable parental consent.
How is AI used, honestly?
A professional-grade AI author writes each story to a real children's-publishing craft brief — structure, refrains, age-appropriate vocabulary — and an AI illustrator paints the pages. Every book is reviewed against strict age-appropriateness rules built into the author itself, no matter what's typed into the story form.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Leaving for good → Delete account & all stories. You'll be asked to type DELETE to confirm, and offered a keepsake download of your whole library first. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Writing books
How do I write a book?
New story walks you through four small questions — who it's for, the hero, the story, finishing touches — and the author takes it from there, writing page by page while you watch. Most books are ready in about a minute.
What are the story starters on the landing page?
Occasions — a new sibling, first day of school, afraid of the dark — are prefilled briefs the author weaves into the story. Pick one and the wizard arrives already knowing the moment your family is in.
Can I edit a book after it's written?
Yes — open the book and press Edit. The book lies down on the editor's desk where every page is directly editable, pages can be dragged into a new order, and changes save as you go. You can also ask the author to rewrite a single page with a note like “make it funnier.”
How many books can I write?
The free plan includes 2 new books each month, refilling on the 1st, plus 1 fully painted book as a one-time gift. The Family plan raises that to 10 new books and 4 painted books every month.
Pictures & covers
How do the illustrations work?
Once a book is written, Illustrate paints the cover and every page in the studio's storybook style, guided by each page's art direction. Painting is resumable — if it's interrupted, it picks up where it left off.
Can I repaint a page I don't love?
Yes — every painted page has a Repaint button. Each repaint spends one image of the same monthly painting ink the first paint drew from, so a book never needs a second book slot — just a little ink.
Why does the cover look like a real book jacket?
Because it's built like one: title in the top third, the hero as the focal point, byline at the foot — and inside, the book carries a real title page, copyright page, and dedication, front cover to back cover.
Your library
Do I own the books?
Yes. Your library is yours forever, on any plan — read them in the app, download them, print them. Cancelling never takes a book away.
Can I download my whole library?
Yes — you can bundle every finished book as real PDFs, typeset cover to back cover, delivered together in a zip folder called “Our Lomelle Library.” (It's also offered any time you visit the delete screen and choose to stay.)
What's on the back of a book?
Flip any book on the shelf (⋮ → Details) to read its back cover — the jacket summary the author wrote for it. Hover the back to zoom the text larger.
Can I rearrange my shelf?
Drag any book to a new spot — the shelf keeps your order. Heroes drag the same way.
Can I set up more than one child?
Yes — add up to 4 children in Settings. Each one is a view, not an account: pick a name in the sidebar and the shelf shows their books (plus every book made for everyone), and New story starts with them already chosen. No child ever needs a login or a password — it stays a grown-up's account that your children enjoy with you.
Heroes
What is a hero card?
Every hero your family creates gets a player card — their portrait on the front, their record on the back. Tap a card to flip it.
Does editing a hero change future books?
Yes — the back of the card is the hero file the author writes from. Change the name or description and the next adventure is written and painted from what you saved.
Do heroes really come back the same?
Yes. Pick a returning hero for a new story and they keep their look and personality, like a real book series.
Narration & car mode
What is storyteller narration?
A Family perk: a warm storyteller voice reads a book aloud — real audio, synthesized page by page from the book's written text by our text-to-speech partner and kept with the book in your library. Narration is metered in characters of story text: the Family plan includes 60,000 characters a month. The free plan's read-aloud is different — your device's own voice, running entirely on your device.
What is car mode?
Listen turns your narrated books into a hands-free playlist: big controls, a lit cover, the words drifting by, one page flowing into the next and one book into the next — made for the back seat on a long drive. Only narrated books appear there, and each one can be downloaded as a single MP3 for stretches without signal.
Is the storyteller a recording of a person?
No — nothing is ever recorded. The narration is generated speech, made from the book's text at the moment you ask for it. It's stored in your family's own space and deleted with the book.
Translation
Can a book be translated?
Yes — on the Family plan, Translate writes a linked sibling of a finished book in the language you name (5 translations a month). The original never changes; the pair stays grouped together in your library, and the translation keeps the book's paintings.
Which languages work?
Name any language in the translate dialog — Spanish, Tagalog, Polish, whatever your family speaks — and the author writes the sibling edition in it. As with all AI writing, read it through before bedtime if you can.
Trophies & streaks
How do trophies work?
The Trophy Room fills as your family makes and reads: trophies for the first book written, the first fully painted book, a growing cast of heroes, and nights of reading together. Each trophy is minted by the server at the moment it's truly earned — there is nothing to buy in the Trophy Room and no way to shortcut one.
What is a reading streak?
Reading counts once a night. Read together 3 nights running for the first streak trophy, 7 for the next, and 30 for the gold — each stays on the shelf forever once earned.
What is the dragon?
A companion that grows on nights read in all, never on a streak — a missed bedtime can't set it back. The egg arrives on night 1, it cracks after 7 nights, a hatchling climbs out at 21, and at 50 nights the dragon is grown. It lives on its own plank in the Trophy Room.
Sharing & gifting
Can I share a book with family far away?
Yes — Share this book creates a private, read-only link that opens for anyone, no account needed: the whole book, paintings, word-magic read-aloud and all. The link is unguessable, shared pages are marked so search engines don't index them, and you can revoke a link any time from your shelf — a revoked link stops working immediately.
Can I prepay a year of Family?
Yes — one payment of $79, never auto-renewing, and it stacks: the year begins when the Family time your account already has (a prepaid year, or a subscription's already-paid period) runs out. It always lands on your own account — there's no way to buy it for another family yet. Looking for a present? Every finished book downloads as a real PDF, which makes a lovely printed gift.
Living Portraits & packs
What is a Living Portrait?
Bring to life turns a hero's painted portrait into a short living clip — they blink, shift, and look up at you from the card. Living Portraits come as a pack of 3 for $2.99, and the credits never expire.
How do fresh portraits work?
Every family can paint 2 fresh hero portraits a month, on any plan. The Portrait pack (5 portraits, $1.99) adds more; bringing a portrait to life always uses a Living Portraits credit.
What are the packs in the Book Store?
À-la-carte top-ups for a big month: the Book pack (5 more books, $2.99), the Painting pack (2 more fully painted books, $4.99), the Portrait pack, and Living Portraits. Credits never expire — they wait on your account for the month you need them.
Reading offline & accessibility
Can we read without internet?
Lomelle installs as an app — Add to Home Screen on a phone or tablet — and books you've been reading keep their painted pages cached, so a bedtime already on the shelf still reads on a plane. Anything that needs the studio itself (writing, painting, trophies) waits for a connection.
Is there a dyslexia-friendly font?
Yes — Settings has an easy-reading switch that sets the story text in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for readability, while the rest of the book keeps its storybook look. The app also honors your device's reduce-motion setting everywhere.
Plans & billing
What does Lomelle cost?
The free plan is free forever — 2 new books a month, plus 1 fully painted book as a one-time gift. The Family plan ($9.99/mo, or $79/yr with 4 months free) raises the limits to 10 new books and 4 painted books every month, and adds warm storyteller narration, car mode, translations for bilingual families, and the studio's finest writer on every book.
What happens to my books if I cancel?
Nothing. Your library is yours forever on any plan. Cancelling only changes how much new ink refills each month.
